Looking for ways to make your business stand out from the crowd? Well you’re in luck because we have 4 fun ways to promote your business right here:

Embrace social media

You probably already have social media accounts for your business but if not, what are you waiting for? Facebook and Twitter are the most obvious ones but it’s all about finding the platforms that perfectly complement your offering. If you offer products or services that look great when photographed, Pinterest and Instagram could also be effective options.

When done well, a strong social media strategy can really help you promote your business and catch the attention of the people that matter the most. Social media can also enable you to gain a better insight into your existing and potential customers’ wants and needs.

Do something original

In the 1950s, Guinness dropped 150,000 sealed bottles into the ocean with a message in each one. It was a marketing stunt and the company hoped people would find the bottles washed up on beaches and spread the word.

If social media existed in the 50s, the campaign would have been even more successful with lucky bottle finders sharing their treasure on Facebook and Twitter. Considering the impact litter has on the environment, we’re not sure you’d get away with a stunt like this nowadays. Nevertheless, it was certainly a clever way to promote the Guinness brand and just goes to show how important it is to think outside the box and do something a little different.

Be silly

Earlier this year an employee at New York advertising agency Harrison and Star innocently wrote the word ‘Hi’ in Post-it notes on the window by her desk. Shortly after, staff in the building across the street replied with a friendly message of their own. It wasn’t long before a full on Post-it war was underway. Workers in each building joined forces to fill their windows with Post-it art, depicting everything from Spiderman to The Simpsons. Their artistic attempts went viral, gaining the companies involved plenty of publicity at very little cost. Unless, of course, you count the hours they ‘wasted’ decorating the windows.

An exercise of this scale isn’t possible for every business but it shows just how far a bit of silliness can go. In this case, the companies’ playful attitude was spread all around the world and seen by millions. By hosting a fun event in your office or doing something that makes others smile, not only could you increase your customer and client base, you may also catch the attention of prospective job applicants. After all, who wouldn’t want to work for a company as fun as the Post-it war brigade?

Feed people

Since the way to a person’s heart is through their stomach, if you want to catch someone’s attention, feed them. Whether you’re taking part in a road show or speaking at a conference, why not order some personalised cookies beforehand to hand out to potential clients and connections?

By having your company’s name or logo printed on a delicious treat, you’ll soon get the word out. You could even send branded cookies to clients as a gift to show how much they mean to you.
